Rant Box: PSG v Chelsea

Jack is in New York for the festivities. I’m in Los Angeles battling a cold. Join me then, for what promises to be a spectacle of sorts.

Training Day

Preseason just got that much more interesting. Chelsea have left the comforts of the northwest to visit Gotham for a date with Carlo Ancelotti and his selection of weapons. In our last foray, a handful of players shone, while others looked relatively poor. With stiffer competition on offer, it will be interesting to see just how things develop. I’ll have my eye on Lukaku to see how he fares against sturdier defenders, on Marko to see if he’s willing to use that left foot instead of cutting inside on the right, and on Eden to see whether that sublime touch of his stands up against the might of Paris’ finest.

Team Sheets:

PSG

Chelsea

Cech; Hutchinson, Cahill, David Luiz, Ferreira; Lampard, Mikel Obi; De Bruyne, Hazard, Kakuta, Lukaku.

PSG seemed the better team actually.  If Ancelotti had not replaced all of his players with B/C and youth players (who the heck is Rabiot?), I think this could have been even worse for us, maybe even 2-0 or 3-0.....Really disappointed...

Are the players good enough to play for the champions of europe? Based ONLY on this game I'd say for each individual:

Cech - yes, hutchinson - no, cahill - maybe, luiz - maybe, ferreira - no, mikel - maybe, lampard - maybe, de bruyne - no, hazard - yes, kakuta - no, lukaku - no, turnball - maybe, ivanovic - yes, chalobah - yes,
terry - yes, cole - yes, essien - yes, mceachran - yes, ramires - yes, malouda - yes, marin - yes, piazon - yes.

Note how second half players were much better! I would like to see this formation next pre season game:

                   Cech
    Chalobah, Ivanovic, Terry, Cole
             McEachran, Essien
         Ramires, Hazard, Marin
                  Piazon

Marin, Ashley Cole and McEachran have made the difference in the second half, injecting much more pace and attacking flair. Essien and McEachran look like a good partnership in the middle. Good goal from Piazon!

What the hell happened to Kakuta? He was so promising..

  • Kid was even worse up close. No tactical awareness whatsoever.
