Multiple outlets are carrying the story that Genk starlet Kevin De Bruyne is at Cobham undergoing his medical ahead of a 9 million quid transfer to the famous CFC. More, after the jump:

London calling

You already know the drill. KdB will come to Chelsea this summer, after finalizing paperwork tomorrow which sets his price and contract in place. The deal is for a rough 9 million, with the player signing a 5.5 year contract. He’ll head back to Genk and complete his season, and join the ranks this summer- at which point many anticipate he’ll be doing a ‘Courtois’ and heading off on a season-long loan.

Andre’s gone to lengths to say he’s not a player he wants, per se, but underlines his potential and recognizes the quality inherent in KdB’s abilities. With Ramires ruled out for a month, Frank on the table, and Obi Trice no where in sight, I think the matter of finding midfield cover, considering The Bison has yet to reach his peak, is more apparent than ever before. I’m all for adding KdB for the future, but we really need to get some closure on our other targets.

That said, welcome to London Kevin. See you next semester.

Carefree.

KDB being loaned out will only help him.  He's not going to be loaned out to a meaningless team he will be loaned out to another Euro club outside of England to better prepare him for Champions league type of football and prepare him for a quicker pace.  Courtois's Loan has actually benefited him a lot and he's growing quite well. They'll both be in the club (if KDB is signed) in the next 2 years.  by than there will be some options and wholes to fill.

  • Mateo

yeah sure loan every player until they turn 30, only then can they be considered first team material.

  • Kalito

hahaha Mateo you are funny, but looking at what you said we should try him first if then we can loan him out

  • Um, calm down. He's not ready to play for us yet. I'd much rather he continue playing rather than coming in and featuring for our reserves.

  • Mateo

Thats my point, we have a bullshit policy when it comes to managing our players, bordering on career killer policy. Josh, Gael, Romelu, Ryan. but on the otherside we praise and worship Torres for "getting involved" 17 straight games and counting, since when is "getting involved" enough of a standard for a "world class world champion" striker. but if a young player underpreforms in the 10 minutes he gets in a season, then he must go on loan...

I think those who really deserve to play for Chelsea will show something when they are loaned ... check out to see how all those yuong players whom we were proud are doing in Hamburg? nothing ... they were not that good after all .... signing young players has the risk .. if they are good at 18, it does not mean they improve in constant rate all the way to 25 ... I do not think Chelsea has a bad policy ...

  • You might want to catch a Hamburg game some time. Both Bruma and Tore are excelling for them.

As for the rest of your point, I agree.

The policy hasn't exactly reaped much benefits if you look at the players we have. Out of all those that we bought young and sent on loan, only Sturridge could be considered a success.

Mancienne, Rajkovic, Tore, Di Santo, etc all turned out to be bog standard. Can they all be that bad or did the scouts miscalculate their potential? Did the loan clubs hinder their development?

Guys like McEachran, Lukaku and Bertrand (23 years old this year for crying out loud) haven't really gotten a chance in the first team and those who are on loan (Van Aanholt, Kalas, Bruma, Davila) haven't exactly set the bar very high.

And the less said about Kakuta the better. He's never going to come good.

I very much fear that after all the hassle of sending them abroad and "developing" them, all they'll end up being is another B-grade player at Hamburg. Honestly, at one point I wondered if this was Arnesen's master plan all along, to build a substandard team from the dregs of Chelsea's youth policy.

  • I kind of see where you are coming from, but you're not entirely accurate.

Bruma has, by most accounts, been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga this season. Kalas also has been one of the best defenders in his league, the Eredivisie. Tore, meanwhile, has been playing extremely well for Hamburg and if he's ever sold, we'll get half of that fee.

As for those we've bought and sold on before they really made an impact for the club ... I'd be interested to see what kind of overall profit, if any, we've made on them. I know we must take in to account wages, time spent, etc., but I'd say we've made some money on these kids.

To be fair though, Courtois seems to be the one bright spark who's doing well on loan amidst the mediocrity we're used to.
